Where Do I Fit In?
Oscar Wilde once said, Be yourself; every unity else is taken. Just as the famous 19th century author and poet stated, all individuals have their own stack of qualities and characteristics that makes them unique. For this reason and countless others, it is not befitting for us does not suit us to attempt to take on the graphic symbol of another individual. Wherever a person may go, the shopping mall of their character generally remains steadfast, while the main perspective of it resonates to those around them. Each person experiences different situations throughout their lives that shapes their personality into who they are today. Personally, going through certain experiences concerning dustup, appearance, and behavior has allowed me to receipt the differences between two cultures that are embedded within me, essentially giving me a unique twist to my identity.
Living in the United States and being able to speak another language other than English may have several benefits, one of which is seeming exotic to those around you.
But it also has near setbacks such as having a name that cannot be enunciate correctly because its letters are not found in the English alphabet. My name is Hala Elsamna. The way that my first name is articulate in Arabic is much different from the way that I pronounce my name when I initially introduce myself to great deal who are non-Arab. This is because the first letter of my name is not marked precisely the same way that the H is in the English language. In Amy Tans essay, she suggests that the language spoken in the family, especially in immigrant families which are more insular, plays a cosmic role in shaping the language of the child (Tan 399).
