In The Tempest by none other than the late wide William Shakespeare, the protagonist, Prospero, is consumed by an alternate world of magic that he has created for himself through and through the power of books which grant him magical abilities. Prosperos books are a symbol of his power. It was his devotion to study that put him on this island in the first place due to the foreseen opportunity by his companion in turn it is this same devotion to study that do him only concentrate on restoring what was rightfully his. Prospero must pack let go of his magic in send to overtake to the world where knowledge means something more than power.
Never is what he needs to do clearer than his revelation towards the ending of the play in the following passage, These our actors,/As I foretold you, were all spirits, and/Are swimming into air, into thin air;/And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,/The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces,/The solemn temples, the great globe itself,/Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,/And, like this aeriform pageant faded,/Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff /As dreams are made on, and our particular action/Is rounded with a sleep. Sir, I am vexed./ come out with my weakness. My brain is troubled.

The first meet of lines deal with the fact that everyone in life is an actor and is playacting a part, a role. In the next few, Prospero also explains that no matter what social status somebody ranks they will eternally mean nothing in the end because death is inevitable.
