In the novel captain of the Flies, Golding demonstrates the brilliance of order in our world today, he has a strong Hobbesian view of life. In order to lance this message across, he uses children termination-to-end the novel to emphasise the importance of rules to create a civil society. The main issue throughout the novel is conflicting pressure on civilisation. There is tautness that is built up during the survival of the boys on the island: tension amid social responsibility and individual needs, tension between rational and emotional reactions and tension between mortality and immortality. These tensions contribute to the disintegration of order as the boys pop to lose control because Golding shows that the savagery inside them is instinct and everyone is born with evil inside them.
Golding uses a variety of techniques to portray the disintegration of order. In the novel, he uses pursuit and violence as one of the main themes to convey the boys as savages. There are six main hunts shown and as the hunting proceeds the boys lose their identity as the little children in England. As the hunts become something more of a pleasure for the savages they begin to bring themselves closer to the savage side of human nature.
Towards the end of the novel, the boys become unrecognisable. One of their first attempts of hunting, as crap tries to bolt down the sow he cannot bring himself to see blood yet. This shows that Jack still has the pressure of civilisation and rules from when he was in England. It shows that the boys could not because of the unbearable blood. This still shows that they are only children ramshackle on an island.
It is not long until Jack shoot downs and spills the blood of a pig and from that moment Jack can bring himself to kill anything. This portrays an image that once the evil inside is let out, it grows and becomes uncontrollable.
