George Eastman

Someone who I think has influenced not tho America, alone the whole world in a positive behavior is a man named George Eastman. He was born on July 12, 1854, in Waterville New York, as the younger of two sisters. One of which was severely handicapped. After the death of his father at age 7, his family grew poor. At the age of 14, he was forced to drop out of school, and began workings at an insurance company to support his family. Over the years, the only other thing he ever spent his property on was his hobby of amateur picture taking. His goal in photography was to make it an overall easier process. He said he cute it to be as convenient as a draw; wanted it to be fewthing everyone could use. At that point in while they used the process known as the wet habitation process. This was a very successful process, however there were some things about it that were inconvenient and made it difficult for the photographer. The preparation in itself was a hassle. It required a lot of equipment such as water containers, several different chemicals, a tent to be used as a dark room, heavy film over habitations and holders, and of course a really big camera and tripod. Equipment wasnt the only problem. Wet plates had to be used within 10 minutes of preparation and had a slow photographic speed.



Eastman hated this process; he thought it to be way excessively complicated. So he began to use his kitchen as a status to experiment with emulsion, hoping to find an easier process. After many long nights of experiments he came to invent the dry place as well as a machine to coat produce them. The dry plate was able to be stored away until ready for use contrasted wet plates. With this new process and technology, Eastman opened up the Eastman dry out Plate Company in Rochester, New York in 1879. This greatly reduced the price of photography.
