During Odysseus’s journey back to his alkali from the Trojan state of war he lands on the island of the Cyclopes. On their search they find and enter a large cave, which happens to be the home of a Cyclops named Polyphemus. Polyphemus returns home with his sheep and finds Odysseus and his workforce; he blocks the caves entrance with a stone, trapping them inside. Polyphemus begins to walk and eat the men for his dinner. Trapped over night with the giant he eats more men for breakfast.
Odysseus comes up with a plan for escape before they are all eaten. When Polyphemus returns from herding his sheep that sidereal day he kills and eats two more of Odysseus’s men for dinner. Odysseus offers Polyphemus some un-watered wine, the wine makes him drunk. Polyphemus asks for Odysseus’s name and promises to give him a feed in return. Odysseus says, “my name is ‘no man’”, Polyphemus says that his gift will be that he will eat “no man” last. Once the Cyclops passes out from the wine Odysseus and his men take the giant’s club that they had sharpened to a point that day, while he was away, and hardened its tip in the fire.
