I believe that democracy is on the turn down in America. I do believe that voting and pickings a part
in my government is very pregnant more thanover you do non hear the younger multiplication talking about politics
and government. The voter turnout seems to be in a resist in the past old age (pg. 15). In the text book it
states that, In the 1960s, for event, the percentage of bailable voters who cast a ballot in
presidential elections ranged from 62 percent to 65 percent , whereas the range since 1996 has been
lower , from 51 percent to just over 60 percent. (pg. 15). This statement is not just talking about the
younger generation but America as a whole. It is easy to see that slight people are taking a role in voting.
In politics today, the most successful campaigns are the ones that rustle the most money (pg. 16).
In the text book on page sixteen it states During the 2008 presidential primaries alone, candidates
raised from both major political parties raised more than $1 billion dollars. slightly candidates might
have better connections with businesses or corporations thus freehand them the advantage when it comes
to finances.
However, just because one candidate has more money at his or her disposal for their
campaign does not nasty they are more qualified for the position that they are streamlet for. Voting
should not be based on who is more popular and who has raised the most money.
Another reason for the decline of American democracy is the negative attacks and negative
atmosphere. Today American politics can be characterized by the negative advertising, enthusiast
conflicts, and personal attacks (pg. 16). For example, there were claims made in the 2004 election that
chair George W. Bush had avoided serving in the Vietnam War (pg. 16). Another example was the
republican attacks on President Barrack Obamas honor status, comparing it to that of Britney Spears
and Paris Hilton (pg. 16)
