The hithertots of the Great Depression and World War II created a need for hope in the emerging marketed as the the Statesn Dream. The Hollywood film industry delivered on that augur in the now cliché Hollywood Ending where everything works come to the fore in the end and the fairy tale ending is the norm. (Most, 2006) Television, unsloped beginning to take a foothold in the American living rooms, portrayed the American landscape of white discoverer fences and prefect all-American family, but there were deeper issues going on in America during this time. (Most, 2006) Post World War II America was entrench in socioeconomic issues like race, gender, and social class equality, which were universe ignored on the silver screen and television. (Paller, 2005) The theater was the prop these difficult issues were being explored in some very judgment provoking works by such playwrights as Arthur milling machine, Tennessee Williams, and Lorraine Handsberry.
Arthur Millers 1949 play Death of a Salesman portrayed Willy Lomans quest for the American Dream. The plot begins with Willy re plowing from an unfinished rail line trip as the effects of age are victorious a toll on him. Willy finds his two adult sons, go across and Biff, and his wife at home when Willy returns. (Miller, 1996) Willy is consumed by the failure of his son, Biff, and his hold mistakes.



In a series of flashbacks Willy revisits points in his life with his family, which turn out to be the catalyst for his failures. Willy is further haunted by images of this own brother, Ben, and the perceived success Ben has achieved. Willy disguises the lack of sales commissions by borrowing money from his neighbor, Charlie. Charlie has offered Willy a job several multiplication but Willys pride gets in his way even after he is fired from the job he has had for 34 years.
