Chicago Visit #1: Agora

Art needs someone to listen to its message,

The above quote can be found on Magdalena Abakanowiczs website at www.abakanomicz.art. It comes from the record she delivered during the ceremony in which she was conferred the present of International Sculpture Center for the Life Achievements back in October 2005 in New York. Art would not be art if there was no one to appreciate it and to think about the message that every bankrupticular piece is trying to convey. After my visit to Grant Park, I cannot imagine a more perfect place for Agora to spread its message and to be desired.
In canvas Agora even just for the afternoon, I can slowly make the connection to the Paleolithic megaliths based on the optic traits alone. When you arrive at the structure, you see these huge mankind-like forms that are passing stylized, consisting only of a partial upper torso, legs and feet. Agora incorporates 106 of these large forms. It is almost like a maze walking by means of this outdoor installation and it is pretty spectacular.



The hollow figures seem to be right at home in this bustling metropolis, the dandy city of Chicago, where they are installed on a sidewalk make for giants at the south end of Grant Park. The best part of my experience was the time at which I went to see Agora. It was Sunday, more or less 4:30 in the afternoon, just as the Bears back up was getting out, and the masses of people exiting the stadium brought Agora to deportment because what was being depicted by Agora could be seen all around Grant Park, right in front of me, and it entangle like Agora was a true representation of human beings in general.
