The 2 men who have been Peppers from the beginning, vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bass player Michael Balzary, became come together friends in high school in Los Angeles. They joined with checkmate classmates Hillel Slovak on guitar and Jack Irons on drums to form the band Anthem. Their band, Anthem, ended shortly after the creation.
