The Great Lakes is a chemical confederation which produces umteen things such as atomic number 35-based flame retardants for plastic resins, polymer additives, fine chemicals for drug production and swimming pool chemicals (Upbin,B. As a chemical play along Great Lakes faces challenges that early(a) companies do non even have to worry about. Located in Indiana, Great Lakes has many employees from all different backgrounds who work for them. Some be older members while others be just starting their careers. thither is a diversity of employees as well as where they are from but all work together to keep the company going.
Technology wise Great Lakes had nothing in the musical mode of enterprise software (Upbin, B. (1999)). Mark Burliss took over as chief operating officer in 1998 and it was his job to get the company back on track. Getting the technology up to date was one footfall he needed to accomplish before moving the company forward. With the technology taken care of Burliss could move forward with his other objectives.
Economic wise Burliss needed to see where Great Lakes stood among their competitors. Great Lakes is the worlds largest maker of bromine which helps them except when prices of bromine are low. No matter how big a producer you are if prices are low then you are losing gold. During Burliss clipping as CEO he acquired companies to add to the Great Lakes assets.
